Television Brainstorming

Ideas:

·         Promo for upcoming video – How to Survive a Minnesota Winter

·         Something in correlation to my radio broadcast – “Cleaner Earth”

·         Commercial for a product

When given this assignment, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I started looking up YouTube videos and began the brainstorming process. The first couple ideas that popped into my mind were those cheesy commercials where “If you call right now, we will double the offer! And it is still only the amazingly low price of $9.99!” Those commercials stick with me because they are humorous, cheesy, but they do captivate you. Then I began thinking and realized that I am not really a “funny” person. I don’t want to do a video that I will be struggling with and not be myself. I am more of a “serious” person, so that is when I thought about doing something doing a promo for something informational. The first idea that came to mind was the “How-To” videos. We are going to revise or add another show onto them, so I thought it would be a good idea to do a news promo for an upcoming story that our “reporters” are getting the story for. I wanted to do a serious new report. I know a lot of people want to probably have a lot of effects and do quite a bit of editing for this 30 second video, but I wanted to stick more to a message, rather than effects.

These were just the few ideas I had when I was thinking about this news promo. I began looking on YouTube to get inspiration on how to do this promo. After looking at some videos, I wanted it to be business-like; getting the message across about this upcoming feature that “Eyewitness News” will be reporting. Hopefully, this will turn out as I planned, and really, I am taking inspiration from quite a few videos, taking bits and pieces from each, and making it my own promo for this special news report.

How to Survive a Minnesota Winter

Reporter: Hello, and welcome to the news, bringing you the most accurate and updated information. Today we’ll be featuring a special on Minnesota winters and how to survive even the harshest of conditions.  We’ll be on location with some Minnesota folks in the north woods talking about how they prepare for this season.

Local: improv about Minnesota - trees, wilderness, nature, Spam

Reporter: When October hits in Minnesota, the locals begin to prepare for whats going to be what may be considered the worst of the worst when it comes to winter. As far as Minnesotan’s are concerned, it’s just another day in the north land.

The leaves begin to change with extraordinary color, and the air becomes crisp and brisk. It’s that time of year again, when the scarves, mittens, boots, and thick socks come out.

Reporter: To many outsiders, Minnesota's winters appear to be cold and inhospitable. Even among Minnesotans, a common expression is that there are only two seasons, Winter and Road Construction.

Minnesota winters can be bad, but with the right attitude, supplies, and adopting a measure of the Scandinavian hardiness, the winter can be tolerable and fun. Winters are long and cold, snowy and icy, with blizzards and biting winds. There are also beautiful days, crisp and clear, with a bright blue sky and a shining sun. These are the days when it is a joy to wrap up in warm clothes, get outside, and play in the snow. To us Minnesotans, we know that Mother nature can change every 5 minutes.

But how does one go about dressing for the winter wonderland of Minnesota? Let’s take a look...

Minnesota winters can be harsh, but with the right preparations, anyone can survive it. Starting those preparations in the fall will help you out during those dead of the winter nights with 40 below windchill. To Minnesotans, these six months of the year is normal, but for those of you who don’t know how to survive a Minnesota winter, hopefully you have learned some of the insight to accomplish this bone-chilling adventure.
